News, events, tips, and tricks from your synod ministry partners

Global Mission: Global Mission Sunday, Oct. 28

All congregations are encouraged to celebrate Global Mission Sunday on October 28, 2012. This is Reformation Sunday, a day when we remember our Lutheran heritage and God’s grace. This year we will celebrate that heritage with our Companion Synods - the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Colombia and the Central Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania – by sharing prayers, liturgy, and hymns in common.

A worship outline was distributed at Synod Assembly, will be mailed to all congregations in early July, and is available online at semnsynod.org/global-mission-sunday

For more information contact: Kathy Bolin at bolin@semnsynod.org, 507-280-9457, or 800-426-6376 in Minnesota.

Lutheran Campus Ministry: Celebrate 9/23

Crossroads Campus Ministry (Mankato) is one of two vibrant ELCA student ministries in our synod. As with Winona’s campus ministry, Crossroads provides worship, fellowship, outreach, and sanctuary for students.

September 23, 2012 is Campus Ministry Sunday. Each congregation in the Southeastern Minnesota Synod will be sent a DVD about both Crossroads’ and Winona’s Campus Ministry organizations.

We ask your collaboration in prayer and financial support. Also, when students from your congregation attending college in Mankato or Winona, share their names with our organization so they can be invited to be a part of one of these important and growing ministries (send names and contact info to lcmcrossroads@gmail.com or lcc_winona@hbci.com). We want to offer to be their faith home away from home.

Women of the ELCA: Celebrating 25 Years

It is time to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Women of the ELCA. From June 2012, through May 2012, congregation units are encouraged to find a way to recognize this milestone.

Here is one way: In 2013, Lutheran World Relief will challenge Lutherans to increase by 25 percent the number of LWR Mission Quilts created in any given year. The goal is 500,000 in one year.

Also, there is a Women of the ELCA Liberia Tour being planned to mark the 25th anniversary. The trip will be December 8-15, 2012. Some of the oldest relationships are with the women of Liberia. Information about the trip can be found in the June issue of Interchange, the churchwide Women of the ELCA newsletter, at www.womenoftheelca.org (get the PDF at http://bit.ly/OhIJhv). It is open to all women.
