Bishop Steven Delzer: Bishop Steven Delzer was installed as Bishop of the Southeastern Minnesota Synod in 2013. He and his wife Donita have three adult children and seven grandchildren. Prior to his role as Bishop, Steve served in congregations in Maryland, Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota. Bishop Delzer enjoys running, biking, tennis, skiing,reading and Minnesota Gopher Football! The synod-wide “Enough Food for All”
initiative is very close to Bishop Delzer’s heart. He encourages every congregation
in the synod to participate in ministries which provide all Minnesotans with
consistent, nutritious food.
Cheryse Brenno: Cheryse Brenno joined the Office of the Bishop staff in January 2002 as Statistician. Since that time she has had the opportunity to work in many different areas within the Bishop’s office. She currently works with Call Process and Synod Finances. It has been an opportunity and a blessing to work in the Southeastern Minnesota Synod. Cheryse grew up on a farm down by Canton, Minnesota on which her parents are still farming. She is the second oldest of six daughters so farming and working hard is in her blood! She was a dairy farmer for 20+ years, miss the cows not the milking! Cheryse has 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren which are the love of her life! Cheryse enjoys visiting with people, gardening/landscaping, and above all, being with her grandchildren and watching them show dairy cattle!
Rev. Emily Carson: Emily loves her role as synod storyteller. She is an ordained Lutheran pastor and attended The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Emily also writes a weekly column for the Rochester Post-Bulletin called “Holy Everything” which appears on Wednesdays. Emily enjoys blogging, photography, and composing the occasional spontaneous jingle.
Kathy Chatelaine: An educator, Kathy has partnered with students of all ages and their families since 1982. As Director of Global Mission/Companion Synods, she is excited to broaden her sphere of accompaniment with local and global congregations to discover and tap into the Spirit’s amazing work throughout our interdependent world. Kathy and her husband, Dave, live in Owatonna and are entering their 31st year at Trinity Lutheran. They find joy in sharing life with their three adult children. Reading, conversing with friends and family, exploring God’s creation through biking, hiking, and canoeing, and experiencing music are a few of Kathy’s favorite things.
Mary Kay DuChene: Mary Kay is committed to developing excellence in the church setting. Her passion of helping people identify and embrace their authentic leadership gifts and helping churches find their vocation, in combination with her experience in business leadership and coaching, enables her to help pastors, lay leaders, teams – and churches – lead long and well. When not working or in the throws of life’s duties, Mary Kay loves to spend time with her husband and 4 adult children, read, and commune with nature in the Twin Cities or at the family retreat near the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Gwen Larson: Gwen Larson is the Office Administrator for the Southeastern Minnesota Synod Office of the Bishop. She lives in Stewartville with her husband, Kevin, and their four children, where they are members of Zion Lutheran Church. Gwen enjoys reading, traveling when she can, and most of all….family life.
Kari MacIver: Kari has now worked as a member of the Office of the Bishop staff for 6 years! Her educational background is in Parenting/Family Education and Counseling. This background serves her well in her position on the staff! She lives in Rochester with her husband, Ken. They have three grown daughters. Outside of work, her interests are gardening, cooking, and wine. Working in the Office of the Bishop, with all the opportunities for relationships in the synod and beyond, gives this extrovert great joy! Luke 12:34 is a meaningful verse to Kari.
Rev. Susan Miller: Rev. Susan Miller joins the Office of the Bishop staff after serving as a congregational pastor, an interim pastor and on the Bishop’s Staff in New Jersey and in Saint Paul. Her passions include working with leaders to identify, develop and refine their unique gifts for mission and ministry and working with congregations as they seek to be beacons of God’s light for others. Concern for immigrants and refugees, people who live in poverty and children all tug at Susan’s heart.
Sherry Paynic: Sherry lives in Rochester with her husband, Steve. They have six grown children and seven grandchildren. Her interests include gardening, cooking, making wine and my newest hobby making soap. She has spent time volunteering in kindergarten classes over the past year.
Rev. Pete Reuss: Prior to serving as a member of the Office of the Bishop staff, Pastor Pete served for 10 years at Peace Lutheran Church in Eyota, a mission congregation that moved from worshiping in a school gym to a first building in his time there. You can often find him in his running shoes trying to catch the fast people ahead of him in the race.
