The Rev. Barbara Lund serves as the Senior Director of Operations in the Service and Justice unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Service and Justice unit fosters and facilitates the ELCA’s engagement in service, promotes efforts to call and act for compassionate justice and supports the freedom of Christians to love and serve their neighbor globally and locally.
In this capacity, she oversees the operations of the ELCA’s global and domestic ministries that are deeply rooted in the ELCA identity: World Hunger, Lutheran Disaster Response, Advocacy, Global Companions and mission personnel, Ministries of Diverse Cultures and Communities and AMMPARO. This rich tapestry of ministries deepens and extends the ELCA’s faith in action with a commitment to accompaniment.
Pastor Lund has served ELCA Churchwide Organization through the Global Mission Unit as the Asia Pacific Desk Director, Global Mission Events Director, and pastor at Tokyo Union Church in Tokyo, Japan. Pastor Lund is a graduate of Augsburg University and received her Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary.
Pastor Lund serves on the board of Lutheran Services in America. During the Lutheran World Federation Assembly in Karakow, Poland (2023), she was elected to serve a five-year term on the council and appointed to chair the Committee for World Service. LWF World Service is the humanitarian and development arm of the Lutheran World Federation.
