Southeastern Minnesota Synod
Power and Boundaries: Boundaries Workshop
September 26: 9AM-3PM
Assisi Heights, Rochester
Cost: $10 (includes lunch)
“Anyone who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit…” Proverbs 27.18
In the arid climate of the Middle East, fruit bearing trees do not grow without being tended. We often forget that our bodies, our minds, our hearts and our spirits require care. This verse from Proverbs reminds us of that.
So do good boundaries. As leaders in the Church, we are called upon to minister to others. For many of us, one of the reasons we were attracted to ministry is because we want to nurture others. However, this need of ours to be caring can also lead to burnout and to boundary violations. None of us want this to happen, but when we ignore our personal needs, our spirits can shrivel and we can cease to bear fruit.
A Boundary Workshop is scheduled for Monday, September 26 at Assisi Heights at 1001 14th Street NW, Rochester, Minnesota. The workshop will run from 9AM-3PM.
Tammy Devine, Diaconal Minister, from Portico Benefits Services will be with us to facilitate our discussion strengthening healthy boundaries. The Wholeness Wheel will frame the content of that part of the presentation. Following lunch, we will engage in discussions around boundaries in congregational life and the response of the Office of the Bishop to boundary violations.
Clergy, lay rostered staff and program staff serving in our synod are encouraged to attend. If you have not attended a previous workshop, it is important that you make every effort to do so now. We expect all leaders to attend a Boundary Workshop at least once every 5 years.
The cost for this workshop, including the noon meal, is $10. The fee can be paid online through the online registration or by filling out the paper registration and including a $10 check when you mail it back to the Office of the Bishop.
(FYI: If you cannot attend this workshop, Rev. Susan Miller will be facilitating a workshop in New Hope, MN. on Thursday, November 3. More information about that event is available on the Minneapolis Area Synod website, www.mpls-synod.org. Also, Southwestern Minnesota Synod will be holding a Boundaries Workshop on November 1 from 9 to 3. Information regarding this workshop will be available on their website www.swmnelca.org.)
