Our synod has three priority areas: developing leaders, equipping congregations, and accompanying global partners. Our mission statement is, “We are equipping congregations and leaders to follow Jesus into a changing world.”
The Southeastern Minnesota Synod is a faith community of over 121,000 baptized people in 172 congregations (including one student congregation at St. Olaf in Northfield), five Sudanese worshipping communities, two synodically authorized worshipping communities, and two campus ministries (Crossroads Campus Ministry, Mankato and Lutheran Campus Center, Winona). Our current bishop is Rev. Steven H. Delzer who was elected in 2013.
The Southeastern Minnesota Synod is one of 65 synods which make up the ELCA. Its geographic area includes 15 counties in the southeastern corner of Minnesota. Click here for a congregational map. Click here for some quick facts.
At the 2009 Synod Assembly, we voted to become a Reconciling in Christ synod. We uphold the mission statement of ReconcilingWorks: “We believe that God values and embraces each person as a beloved child, that the Spirit gives diversity of gifts for the common good, and that Jesus Christ calls us to work for justice.”
