I was hungry... and you fed me.
-Jesus (Matthew 25)

Food insecurity within local communities has increased in the past few years, resulting in a record number of our neighbors accessing community food shelves. Since 2021, the Southeastern Minnesota Synod, ELCA, has provided a locally funded Food Ministry Grant. This grant is available to congregations to address hunger within their community. The funds are made available through generous donations to the synod’s Food Ministry Grant designated fund.

Applications for this year’s Food Ministry Grant went live on Tuesday, June 30. Up to five (5) grants of $500 will be awarded in 2026. Applications will be prioritized based on:

  1. an innovative response to an emergent need for community access to healthy food;
  2. intergenerational participation in planning and implementing your food ministry;
  3. a commitment to share the story (with photos!) through RC Weekly, the synod’s weekly e-newsletter, about the impact these grant funds have made on your community.

Get a team together to envision the possibilities this seed money can have in helping to alleviate hunger in your community!

Applications are due by July 16, 2026.
